Many deformations occur in the breast tissue due to various reasons such as gravity, aging, excessive weight changes, pregnancy, wrong bra use. The breast tissue softens over time, the skin covering the breast form becomes loose, the breasts look empty and saggy. These deformations, which are a very distressing problem for many women, can be corrected with breast lift surgery, and even looks better than before.
A shaped, proportional, upright and firm breast form is considered the ideal today. The main reasons that lead women to breast lift surgery are that the breast tissue loses these properties and starts to sag, and the nipple reaches the point where it touches the abdomen instead of pointing the opposite way.
What Is Breast Lift Surgery?
General anesthesia is applied in breast lift aesthetic operations. The operation, which is performed in a full-fledged hospital, takes approximately 2.5 – 3 hours. The goal in breast lift surgery is to move the sagging breast tissue to where it should be and to give the person a more upright and lively breast appearance. Breast lift surgery can be performed not only in the form of lifting / recovery, but also by supporting it with breast prostheses.
How To Prepare For Breast Lift Surgery?
Although breast lift surgery is a comfortable operation, it requires a serious preparation process. Patients who apply to us for breast lift surgery are first given an appointment for a consultation. In the consultation we listen our patient’s expectations carefully and determine the surgery protocol considering their demands. Breast lift surgery is an operation that should be planned individually.
During the consultation, we take the patient’s medical history. If there are drugs prescribed for regular use, we learn the details. Although breast lift surgery is a safe operation, there are some details that should be considered during the preparation. For example, if candidates are using blood thinners (they can be in the form of pills or ready-made injections), they must stop using these drugs approximately 10 days before the operation. However, this interruption must be within the knowledge of the doctor prescribing these drugs.
In addition, if our patients are smoking, they should stop for about 1 week before and after the operation. Thus, the recovery process will be faster in the post-operative period.
Breast lift surgery is a comprehensive operation. After the operation, which lasts for an average of 2.5-3 hours, it is necessary to stay in the hospital for 1 day. Afterwards, it is important for the patients to be at full rest for the first week. For this reason, arranging your companion to accompany you during your hospital stay before the operation and preparing your daily and social affairs so you can take a break for 1 week will allow you to spend the process physically and mentally relaxed.
During the consultation, we decide the surgery protocol to be performed. In the meantime, we share detailed information about how the incision will be made, how the breast tissue will be moved to where it should be, how the nipple will look, and whether an implant will be used.
Can Breast Lift Surgery And Breast Augmentation Surgery Be Performed Together?
Breast lift and augmentation operations are often combined. Breast lift surgery is performed in two ways. The first is the correction of the tissu. In this method, the sagging breast tissue and internal structures are carried upwards and the breast is recovered and an upright breast form is obtained. The second method in breast lift surgery is to make the breast form more upright, shaped and fuller with a breast implant following the breast lift procedure. The method to be used is decided during the consultation. Breast lift surgeries performed with breast prosthesis are applied in cases where the breast tissue is insufficient after recovery.
After the necessary examinations, if the patient does not have a health problem that prevents them from receiving general anesthesia, the surgery day is determined.
Breast Lift Surgery Day
The days of surgery can be stressful and worrying for some patients. This is quite natural and understandable. Before the operation, your surgeon visits you in the hospital room and gives general information about the process. At this point, if you have questions or concerns, it is very important that you share them with us. Thus, as you get satisfactory answers to your questions, it will be much easier for you to calm down and get ready for surgery.
There should be a fasting of 6-8 hours before the operation. For this reason, you should adjust your diet the day before the surgery accordingly. On the day of surgery, while our hospital staff prepare you for your surgery, your surgeon will make the preparations. The drawing of the operating area is usually completed in the hospital room. Then, while you are taken to the operating room by the hospital staff, your surgeon makes his own preparations for the surgery, especially sterilization, and then you come together again in the operating room. According to the posts of most of our patients, you fall asleep with the effect of anesthesia without even knowing what it is.
After a few hours, you will open your eyes with a brand new, more upright and shaped breast form.
Breast Lift Aesthetics
The operation is performed in a full-fledged hospital under general anesthesia. It takes 2.5-3 hours on average. Depending on the technique to be used, this period may extend up to 4 hours. There are multiple incision techniques in breast lift surgery. Although it varies according to the breast lift technique to be preferred, an inverted T or lollipop incision is usually made from the nipple. In breast lift surgery, which is a comfortable operation, the breast tissue is moved to where it should be, the deformation in the tissues is removed, excess skin is removed, and a more taut and lively breast form is obtained. At the end of the operation, the chest area is tightly bandaged.
There are 3 different degrees of breast sagging.
First degree sagging is the degree where the sagging of the breast tissue is the least. If the breast tissue sagging is close to the imaginary line under the breast, this is first-degree sagging. There is a narrower tissue recovery. In this degree of sagging, recovery of the breast tissue is usually sufficient. Most of the time, it does not require intervention on the nipple.
Second degree sagging is diagnosed according to the position of the nipple. If the nipple is 2-3 cm below the nipple line, this is second-degree sagging. In this case, support can be obtained from breast implants or fat injections. Slightly more skin is surgically removed compared to first-degree sagging. Lollipop-shaped incisions are mostly preferred in second-degree sagging.
The most severe sagging and loosening we see in patients who apply for breast lift surgery are seen in third-degree sagging. At this degree, the breast tissue is recovered, the excess skin is removed and the breast is given a more taut and shapely form. In third degree sagging, since the degree of sagging of the breast tissue is too high, the nipple is also intervened, and it is repositioned together with the breast tissue. In third-degree sagging, where an inverted T-shaped incision is mostly preferred, the surgery is supported by breast prostheses.
Will There Be Any Scars After Breast Lift Surgery?
In many aesthetic surgery operations, surgical incision scars can be hidden very well, but unfortunately, it is not a very correct statement to talk about a scarless appearance when it comes to breast lift surgery. Especially in the incisions made in the form of reverse T and lollipop, a certain scar remains, but these scars take on a minimal appearance over time and take almost the same color as the skin tone about 1 year after the operation. In breast lift surgeries, there is a scar in skin tone colors, albeit very thin.
Breast Lift Surgery Recovery Process
Possible edema is minimized by applying ice compresses after the surgery. It is possible to return to social life in about 1 week after the breast lift surgery, where you stay in the hospital for 1 day after the operation. In the first week, our patients should avoid heavy lifting, do not force their arms, and protect the chest area from possible impacts. At the end of the operation, the tight bandages are removed in the first week, and then a special surgical bra similar to a sports bra is put on. Wearing this bra for about 1 month is very important for the new form of breast tissue.
About 5-6 days after the operation, our patients can easily take a shower. However, sports should be avoided in the first month, except for short walks. As the edema in the breasts will be gone by about the 10th week, our patients can do sports provided that they do not force themselves too much. Although it may vary from patient to patient, our patients are called for general control in the 1st week, 2nd month and 6th month of the operation.
Although breast lift surgery does not generally cause a loss of sensation, minor partial loss of sensation is expected in the first few months after the operation. As the excess skin is removed and the tissues treated are renewed, the loss of sensation is left behind.
